Urban Genesis works across a broad spectrum of urban and place management initiatives, from crime prevention, cleaning and maintenance, informal trade management and taxi management to environmental improvements, business attraction and retention, marketing and communication, and social programmes. The company's core business is the establishment and management of place and urban management initiatives, and the provision of services to enhance the potential of these districts. The company has two divisions, namely urban and place management services and urban development and management consulting services.

Urban Genesis is a member of the Green Building Council of South Africa and an approved partner of the Institute of Place Management. The company also has Green Star Professional Accreditation status. Urban Genesis has board representation on the International Downtown Association in Washington.
