This can be described as distinctiveness, which only occurs when the special features and character of 'place' have been nourished and used creatively to develop and promote it.

Marketing

If a 'place' wishes to enhance its potential and develop into a unique destination it needs to employ place-making and branding tools. From urban design, market positioning, brand development and the formulation of property strategies to public space management, capital improvements and requirements, research and ongoing performance monitoring, creating 'special places' involves a clear and concise plan of action with clearly implementable projects.

Place-marketing provides development and implementation of innovative place and destination marketing strategies The company has extensive experience from developing marketing and branding strategies through to actual implementation of the brand including demarcating an area with banners, maps, bus shelters, landscaping, trader stalls and branded bins - to enhancing the experience of places using events, art projects and other special programmes.

Place-marketing also produces place marketing collateral including logos, CI manuals, directories, brochures, maps, banners and annual reports.

  • Marketing strategy, corporate identity guidelines, brochure, and demarcation elements for Newtown, Rosebank, Sandton Central, Randburg and Braaamfontein
  • Marketing and public relations for various Newtown events including Hoezit 2010, Newtown Women in Arts Festival, Newtown Battlegrounds, Newtown Children's Day, Slam da Trash Festival, and Newtown Holiday Club.
  • Marketing and public relations for the international Science Tunnel Exhibition at Johannesburg's Sci-Bono Discovery Centre.
  • Production of Johannesburg Inner City map, Sandton Central, Rosebank and Newtown directories
  • Development of an arts precinct strategy for Florida Road, Durban

Place-marketing has experience working with provincial and local government departments, as well as the private sector, on tourism, heritage, marketing, communications and events management projects. We have built up excellent working relationships with various local authorities, particularly with that of Greater Johannesburg.

We have extensive marketing and events industry contacts established primarily through our ongoing work in one of South Africa's premier home of entertainment, the Newtown Cultural Precinct.
