Who we are

A division of Urban Genesis that focuses on programme management, development planning, affordable and social housing, infrastructure provision and urban management planning.

What we do

The consulting division formulates and implements development and urban management strategies on behalf of investors, land owners and government, as well as providing strategic advisory and consulting services to public and private sector parties in respect of urban development, urban management and infrastructure development. Projects range from large-scale mixed-use and mixed-income urban developments, the formulation of approaches to the provision and financing of infrastructure to the development of urban management solutions for post development

Projects

  • Savanna City, (Basil Read Developments) - structuring an urban management plan with the Midvaal Local Municipality for the provision, financing and management of municipal and bulk services for an 18,600 residential development
  • Mataffin Precinct, (Halls Properties) - formulation of a development plan for the 1,000 ha Mataffin Precinct, home to the Mbombela Stadium
  • Diepsloot, Gauteng - Scoping, visioning and structuring of the development of 400 ha of farm land for the purpose of high-density, mixed-use and mixed-income development, including township establishment and land release.
  • Fair Valley, Western Cape - Development of mixed-use development of 450 units and 21,000m2; of office/retail/light industrial property.
  • Marikana Urban Management Project, North West Province - Strategic advisory services and urban managemnent planning for a mixed-income, mixed-use development on 350 ha of land
  • Mdantsane, Buffalo City Eastern Cape - Research and development strategy for implementation of urban renewal of central business district.
  • Midvaal, Sedibeng, Gauteng - Programme management of infrastructure planning and financing for implementation of economic infrastructure in the municipality.
  • Regional Urban Management Plan (RUMP), Gauteng - Compile an inner city RUMP through conducting a survey of services provision and breakdown of Inner City (UDZ) area of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ); institutional arrangements; budgets and budgeting; implementation capacity assessment.
  • Retail Improvement District (RID), Gauteng - Strategic framework for the upgrade of the RID. This entails a visioning exercise and identification of challenges and opportunities; status quo analysis and presentation of findings; and detailed proposals, financial and institutional arrangements.
  • Sandton Urban Development Framework, Gauteng - Producing a development plan and urban design framework for the Sandton Central Management District (SCMD) as a joint project between the management district, property owners and the City of Johannesburg. This was also implemented for Rosebank Management District in Johannesburg.
  • Cape Town central city development strategy, Cape Town - research and development of development strategy for Cape Town city centre, working for the Cape Town Partnership and property owners in the area.
  • Sedibeng District Municipality, Ekurhuleni - Development of a high level 2010 World Cup strategic plan for Sedibeng. The plan aims at accelerating the implementation of projects and strategies identified in various local and provincial studies and programmes with the aim of benefitting the 2010 World Cup and ensuring growth and development in the district.
  • Transnet Freight Rail - Development of freight hub land use plans for the various intermodal/freight logistics hubs in support of TFR's rail masterplan; including City Deep (Gauteng), Belcon (Western Cape) and Bayhead (KwaZulu-Natal).
